  1. In the laboratory informatics world, we all have to stay current on the latest technologies so our contributions continue to make a direct impact on the value of the lab's efficiency and output. But even more these days, with the increasing pressure to reduce expenses and improve workflow efficiencies throughout the company, the contributions we make in the laboratory also extend all the way up to the corner office.  From data comes information, and the laboratory is delivering more and more information that becomes part of the business metrics used to make critical management decisions every day.  But in this time of reduced travel expenses and sometimes reduced staff, how do we justify the time out of the office for things like user meetings, trade shows or industry conferences?  If we have to prioritize our time and money, where do we find the most valuable experiences so that our contribution to the lab and to the company is optimized?  Let's talk - share what works for you and someone else in the Informatics community is sure to be grateful for the tips.
